Silent Battle

Most of the artists might agree that background is not everyone's strong suit. The best example is me. Yes, the person writing this blog.

This is not some analysis of doing backgrounds but a rattle about artists fighting years and years in a silent battle of doing backgrounds.

I have a funny story about my last personal work I worked on because believe it or not, the result is not what I had in my mind.

This battle actually took a lot of weeks. Why? It's not because of the characters in it or the different poses in them but it was because of the enemy called "Colors".
To give you the gist of how the battle went, these are the pictures of what I went through.

The reference

I spent most of my time mapping out a battle plan. I went through thick and thin thinking of different ways how to defeat the enemy. Finally, I came up to a conclusion, I punched the canvas with colors enough to be called a final blow.

The final blow

Then, I realized some things. I realized this is still not what I'm looking for. The final blow was good enough to finish this never-ending battle but it feels like I was missing out. I thought maybe the color is not the enemy and misunderstood how I perceive the battle. Maybe I was way too focused on the battlefield that I forgot about the important elements, the people in it. That's when I decided to give up my weapons called "Details".

I decided to go back to where I came from and decided to redo the battle all over again. This time, I'm more decisive.

  1. i think you did a good job on the background! i like that you made everything monochromatic blue except the main character of the piece, it really makes them stand out and look like they're in their own little world and tuning everything else out.
